Libby, WebTV and Computer User
I'm a 33 year old, single social worker from Waukesha, Wisconsin. I was born and raised in Waukesha and I doubt if I will ever move since my family is here. The thing I hate most about Wisconsin is the winters! I don't like the bitter cold temperatures. I love the summer months. I like to go boating, swimming and just being outdoors. And of course, I love being on the internet.
I never had any computer training or experience and I was always envious of the people who did.
In November of 1996, my brother bought me a Webtv Classic unit as an early Christmas present (which I am still using). My life hasn't been the same since!
Back in the "old" days, there were no [The site linked to here is not viewable by computer users]alt.discussion groups. They were called W groups. VikingFan, a wonderful person I met on the internet, started a W group which was all about creating homepages. VikingFan's goal was to create a discussion group which allowed people to "show off" their homepages, get encouragement and support and feel part of a community.
That philosophy has carried on to what is known today as the [The site linked to here is not viewable by computer users] Homepage Newsgroup.
Myself, along with a core group of people, stepped in when VikingFan no longer had the time to devote to the internet. We all believe in the philosophy that helping people comes before anything else. Once I mastered HTML and creating homepages, I've been busy giving that knowledge back to the Webtv community as much as I can.
The only problem with this philosophy is that I no longer have a lot of time to post in the newsgroup because I always have a request for help in making images, helping people with their homepages and just answering questions.
Once I got online, I started reading every tutorial, book and newsgroup posting I could to teach myself HTML. A lot of wonderful people helped me along the way. My first webpage creation started out as a page of online games that Webtv users could play.
Slowly, I started adding links to tools, linkable graphics, newsgroups, etc. until it grew into Ultimate Webtv. Ultimate Webtv became so popular, I could no longer handle the traffic. I recently sold Ultimate Webtv and the domain name to John, who has done a great job of improving it with a search engine and other features.
Shortly after I started creating Ultimate Webtv, I was also working on a Webtv directory for kids. My neices and nephew were my inspiration for this. I was always looking for cool, fun sites for them, so I started saving all of the great pages we found.
While I'm always working on the site, Webtv 4 Kids is a complete online directory of kids pages, links and resources that can be accessed with Webtv. This is a complete, family friendly site.
And of course, I created a site for my Pug Dog, Woodfield. My Pug Power Homepage has Pug links, pics, info, graphics and more.
My final project grew out of the demand to be able to promote your site on the internet without going broke.
A lot of people e-mailed me asking for free ways to advertise their site and attract visitors. Well, you can guess what happened.
I started scouring the internet for all of the free promotional sites I could find. Soon, I started adding these sites to a page, and the next thing you know, I have another website. Check out Web Head Central for your directory of promoting your site on the internet using free and low cost resources.
All of the sites I have created have been to assist other users with their internet experience. My only goal in creating these pages has been to help other people and offer assistance. I hope I have been successful in doing this.
The internet has been a wonderful experience for me. I've met a lot of terrific people from all walks of life. I continue to grow and learn every day I'm online. I have certainly found a second family at the [The site linked to here is not viewable by computer users] Homepage Newsgroup and appreciate all of the help and support I have received.
My e-mail box is always open. Just don't expect an immediate response. I work full time and catch up on my e-mail when I can. Please feel free to stop by my sites, and feel free to e-mail me any time at Libby3@webtv.net
